Concept Board Choice

(sorry for the lateness of this post, have been having connectivity issues all week)

After tossing up between my collage and creative concept boards, I finally decided to go with my creative board for the following reasons:
  • Out of all the concept boards I felt it best conveyed my design style
  • I agreed with the overall class comment that the positioning of the images was well considered, with the building itself being the dominant and central focus on the board, with this not being as clear on the other boards
  • the images all really meshed well together and even though only two macro images were included, their large size created a balance between both the macro and micro
  • This concept board also best combined the macro and micro aspects by using an aspect of one in the other, for eg, the filters placed over the black/white photograph in selected squares to imitate the micro aspect of the alternating windows, as well as the various lines placed as the border of the board being a representation of the micro aspect of the raised lines all over the building
The strong black lines that the collage concept was centred around was a really strong design feature that I wanted to utilise within the range of skirts, however I felt that as though the creative concept board had these same lines overlapped as the border, that this feature could still be translated into the skirts, along with the sense of harmony and rhythm that is more effectively conveyed through this board through the fluid positioning of all the images.

One less positive comment that had me worrying whether or not to choose this board however, was that if it was chosen, my designs would be quite hectic with alot of happening, which really isn't representative of my style at all. Though, I decided to justify the quite 'busy' nature of the board by saying that like this concept board, even though my designs would consist of lots of little details, they would not deter from the main, dominant central feature on each skirt.
